Being a chiropractor has definite advantages over other professions.  Here are the top reasons I love being a chiropractor:

  • I feel driven to study every day so that I will be knowledgeable enough to help my patients.  Because of that, I learn new things that help so many people!
  • Every day is different!  I never know what challenges I will face and what amazing things will happen!
  • I don’t have to work in the rain and snow :)

Chiropractic Finds and Corrects the Cause of Health Problems

More and more people in Utah County are seeking a more natural approach to healing.  Through careful, scientific examination and evaluation, Dr. Stone, Pleasant Grove, Utah, can determine which vertebrae and discs are affecting the nerve supply to the parts of the body or organs involved in many types of disorders.  A vertebral problem in one part of the spine may induce the disorder of the kidney; in another it may relate to a stomach disorder; while in yet other areas it may affect the heart function, or perhaps the lungs, skin, gall bladder, liver, etc. as well as, of course, the shoulders, arms, hips, legs, and feet.

After determining which areas of your spine are involved, Dr. Stone may then “adjust” the vertebrae to reduce these spinal distortions (called subluxations) – the underlying causes of the problem, thus enabling the free, full flow of nerve supply to return to the affected areas.  In effect, Dr Stone realigns the vertebrae and discs, thereby releasing and freeing the irritated or pinched nerves so they can return to doing the normal duties that nature intended them to perform

What is Wellness Care?

Look up “health” in Dorland’s Medical Dictionary, the”Webster’s” of the medical community, and you’ll discover that health is a state of “optimum mental, physical and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmities.”

So, first and foremost, health has little to do with whether you have symptoms!  True health is when you’re working right (well-being) mentally, physically and socially.  So if you go to a doctor for medicine to eliminate an ache or a pain, what you’ll receive isn’t health care.  It’s sick care.  Because reducing or covering up symptoms doesn’t result in health.  In fact, since most so-called “health” insurance only provides partial financial assistance when you have obvious symptoms, it should more correctly be called sickness insurance!

  • If you feel the early signs of a cold coming on and you take some Echinacea and vitamin C, that’s sickness care.
  • If you experience an allergic response to cat dander and you take a homeopathic remedy to alleviate the symptoms, that’s sickness care.
  • If you suffer from headaches, but only see your chiropractor to get adjusted when you have a headache, that’s sickness care.
  • Let’s say you get an upset stomach and begin vomiting after eating improperly prepared food.  Obviously you don’t feel very good, but your body is having a healthy response.  (Remember, health is how well your body is working physically, mentally and socially.)
  • Vomiting, fevers, coughing and sneezing can be signs you’re healthy and responding appropriately to your environment!
  • If you supplement your diet daily to be sure you are getting the proper nutrition your body needs to stay healthy, that’s wellness care
  • If you receive regular chiropractic adjustments to be sure your nervous system is communicating properly with all the systems of your body, that’s wellness care.
  • If you include exercise in your daily routine to keep your body and mind healthy, that’s wellness care.

Wellness care is a constellation of many things that help us to know that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.  That we are capable of being much more than we are.  It’s what Nelson Mandela hinted at after 25 years in prison that, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”

Rather than passively watching TV, use your imagination and actively engage the world through your mind.  These and many more action steps are part of being truly well.

In short, wellness is something that lies beyond merely feeling good.  This is a new way of thinking for those of us who grew up assuming that health is about being symptom-free.
