Four critical elements our bodies need!

Let’s talk about the liver.  I keep noticing that many of my patients are having symptoms of a struggling liver, so I thought I would help you understand how the liver works.

Outside toxins and chemicals from drugs and sugars must go through the liver to be converted into something the body can safely use.  The liver uses glutathione to convert all those bad things.

The four critical elements our bodies need in order for you and me to survive;

  1. Air
  2. Water
  3. Food
  4. Glutathione

When we “run out” of this important element, our liver starts to wrap all those bad chemicals in fat and store them …  where ever it can!  That’s bad!

Glutathione has hundreds of functions in the body. But for most people, if we are able to remember the 5 main benefits, we will be familiar with about 90% of what glutathione does:

I will give you AN IDEA here:

  1. It is your Body’s own Master Antioxidant
  2. It is an Immune System Booster and Balancer
  3. It enhances Detoxification of toxins, pollutants, chemicals, etc.
  4. It regenerates mitochondria at the cellular level, giving you Energy
  5. It has an Anti-Aging Effect on your cells.

Research is being done at an ever increasing rate today. As a result, it is now understood that a healthy eyeball has high levels of glutathione, and an eyeball with cataracts is lacking in it.

Let me help you increase your glutathione levels.  Come in for an adjustment and let me teach you what things you need to do for your liver!!

Startling Facts about NSAID’s

With chronic, long term NSAID use the incidence of liver and kidney conditions increases, gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers are well known adverse reactions, and research reveals that NSAIDs may actually decrease the body’s ability to produce the natural smooth cartilage inside our joints! So the very problem the drugs are made to treat, in this case joint pain and inflammation, might actually be part of the cause of the condition!

With this in mind, what are some other things we can try instead of reaching for the bottle of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories?

Eat a “non-inflammatory” diet. There are foods that contribute to inflammation, and others that suppress inflammation. When you are cooking or baking at home, try substituting all oils with olive oil. The other oils are omega 6 oils, which contribute to inflammation, whereas olive oil is an omega 9, which does not contribute to inflammation. Also, supplement your diet with fish oil (omega 3), which reduces inflammation. Krill oil is even better than regular fish oil.
Eliminate sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup from your diet. Research has shown that these products increase inflammation in the body, contributing to joint pain.
Research reveals that supplementing your diet with glucosamine sulfate can actually help repair cartilage tissues in the joints thereby reducing pain. Other supplements, like Protectin, (scutellaria baicelenesis extract and acacia catechu extract) have been found to reduce joint pain and inflammation. (I have these in my office… just in case you were wondering where you would find a good source.)
Warm up before you exercise! Stretch patiently every day! These activities allow your muscles and tendons to become more flexible, therefore causing less stress on your joints during activity.
Drink water! Don’t wait for thirst to remind you – drink all day!

Kid’s Nutrition

Kid’s Nutrition

How many times do you see parents allowing children to have candy, ice cream, soda and potato chips just to keep them quiet? For children, food provides the building blocks for healthy growth and development. Poor eating habits may result in a lack of energy during school and at play.

Synaptic growth is most significant during your baby’s first few years of life—when he or she is taking in all sorts of new input and acquiring new skills. By the time your child turns 3, each neuron has formed as many as 10,000 connections, making a total of about a quadrillion (1,000,000,000,000,000) throughout the brain. (That’s double the number of connections in your own brain.) Synapse formation slows after the toddler years, but continues throughout childhood and into adolescence, finally reaching adult levels when your child is anywhere from 15 to 18 years old.

Different sugars affect the brain in different ways, so it is only logical to conclude that certain sugars can adversely affect the thinking and actions of some children. The sugars at fault include glucose, dextrose, and sucrose, and the highly refined, highly processed “junk sugars” found in candy, icings, syrups, packaged baked goods, and table sugar. The worst among these is high fructose corn syrup. These sugars enter the bloodstream quickly, reaching high levels in a short time. This triggers the release of large amounts of insulin, the hormone needed to escort the sugars into the body’s cells. These sugars are used rapidly, and when they’re all used up, the blood sugar level plunges to a sugar low, or hypoglycemia . The low blood sugar triggers the release of adrenal hormones (called a “sugar high”) that squeezes stored sugar from the liver, sending blood sugar levels back up. This blood sugar roller-coaster affects moods and concentration in some children and adults, leading to “sugar highs”and “sugar blues.” The ups and downs of blood sugar and adrenal hormones can also stimulate neurotransmitter imbalance, causing the child to feel fidgety, irritable, inattentive, and even sleepy.

The best sugars for the brain are complex carbohydrates. These do not cause the roller-coaster mood swings that the junk sugars do. The molecules in complex carbs are long, so it takes longer for the intestines to break them down into the simple sugars the body can use. Thus, they provide a time-release source of steady energy rather than a sudden surge followed by a sudden drop.

Here are a few tips:

Always include protein with your child’s breakfast.
Replace empty calorie foods with fruits and vegetables.
Survey your own eating habits… What foods are on hand? What are the snack choices?
Increase the variety of fresh fruit you have on hand.
Serve the vegetables that your children like best as often as possible.
Ask your children to try new foods at mealtime.
Serve small portions of a variety of food.
Don’t require them to clean their plates!
Children need vitamin and anti-oxidant supplementation, as well as omega 3 supplementation. (check with me for proper types and amounts)

Chiropractic is for Babies!

I welcomed my new 6 pound 11 ounce grandson into the world with his first adjustment on the third day of life. He was born Sunday, the 21st, and I checked his spine on Tuesday as soon as he got home. Birth can be hard on these little guys. The pressure against the head is quite substantial and can cause quite a bit of trouble if the vertebrae get stuck and quit moving. I’ve found that babies sleep better, cry less, have less colic, have stronger immune systems – after they get adjusted.

I was grateful to be able to help my daughter earlier Sunday. This little guy was insisting on being born posterior. With a technique called “Webster Technique” I was able to convince him otherwise. He settled down into the correct position for birth and my daughter immediately started having less back labor and more productive labor. That was a great chiropractic moment. It is thrilling to see someone benefit so dramatically through chiropractic!

Vitamin D3 & RSV

Pregnant women who take vitamin D can prevent a respiratory illness in newborns called RSV according to a new study published in the American Academy of Pediatrics, May, 2011.
The study suggests that out of the five-million RSV cases every year in the United States, a million fewer kids would get the respiratory virus if more pregnant moms took vitamin D supplements.
“Right now in this study they quote it as 400 international units — so the same as for a newborn child. Although, there have been studies that have shown up to 4,000 international units,” Blackburn said.
The study found that infants who were born with Vitamin D3 levels higher than 75 were 6 times less likely to get RSV in the first year of life.
“Vitamin D deficiency in healthy neonates is associated with increased risk of RSV LRTI in the first year of life,” the study authors write. “Intensified routine vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy may be a useful strategy to prevent RSV LRTI during infancy.”

I have vitamin D3 here in my office that is a good quality. I can help you figure out how much to take.

How do I power my brain?

Have you ever found sweat glistening on your forehead even when you weren’t doing any physical work? That’s the heat given off by the brain! The brain, which comprises only 2% of the body’s weight, uses more than 20% of the oxygen you breathe. The job of managing every cell in your body requires massive amounts of energy. When researchers began to look at the aging brain, they found that antioxidants played a critical role in maintaining optimal function. Memory, learning ability, and even mood are affected by antioxidant nutriture.

You can get antioxidants in my office that provide 9000 ORACs per day. That exceeds the American Cancer Society’s suggested amount of 7000 ORACs per day needed to curb cancer!

Chiropractic and Mood Swings

Men like to think that women have the claim on mood swings, but everyone: men, women, adolescents and the elderly can be affected. In fact, according to WebMD.com, up to 5% of the general population is affected by a dysthymic disorder, or mood disorder.
Rather than taking medications, you can try alternative natural ways for a solution. Since mood swings may be the result of a person’s body missing a natural ingredient, chiropractic care combined with exercise could eliminate mood swings. What we feel physically can drive what we feel emotionally. Therefore, correcting the physical through regular adjustments and physical activity can help with the emotional. Physical pain can be a large factor in someone who has a foul mood. Removing that pain can play a large part in improving a bad mood.
With chiropractic care, removing subluxation will restore proper nerve flow, in turn, restoring the optimum performance of the nerve and function. Subluxation is the misalignment of the vertebrae, restricting motion and interfering with the spinal nerve. Getting adjustments, combined with some physical therapy and laser therapy, can result in better spinal health and overall health.
Additionally, tweaking your diet and supplements could aid in balancing your mood levels.

Why do I need to be adjusted if I’m not in pain??
Every science of healing has what is known as an “avenue of approach.” In the field of medicine, a hypodermic needle injects drugs through the skin; a pill is swallowed and goes into the stomach. There need not be anything wrong with either the skin or the stomach. They are merely the “avenues” through which the drugs gain access to the body.

In the field of chiropractic, the ‘avenue of approach’ is primarily the spine, for this is the framework which houses and protects the spinal cord, the ‘switchboard’ of the nervous system. From the brain, nerves pass down the spinal cord and out to different parts of the body. The nerves leave the spinal cord through openings between the spinal bones, or vertebrae.
When these vertebrae get out of alignment, interference with the normal activity of the nerves can result. Since science has proven that every function of the entire body is under the control of the nervous system, this interference can disturb normal function throughout.

Now you know why you need to be adjusted regularly!

Aesthetic Natural Medicine, the new rage with Utah Valley chiropractic patients

Utah Valley chiropractic patients now have the option to use natural medicine injections to enhance their natural beauty.   Dr. Stone offers Bio-Mesotherapy injections in his office that can make a difference in the way you look and feel.

There was a time when your skin radiated youthful vitality, health, and beauty.  This was before aging, loss of collagen, wrinkles, sun damage, stress, and toxins took their toll.   Bio-Mesotherapy injestions can help you restore that beauty.  What about unwanted fat and cellulite deposits?  Bio-Mesotherapy injections may help you regain the smooth, firm belly, thighs, arms, chin, breast, and neck of your youthful body.

The technique of Bio-Mesotherapy uses minimally invasive injections of biotherapeutic medicines under the skin surface.

Bio-Mesotherapy has a variety of applications.  The most popular uses include:

  • Facial biorevitalization
  • Reduction in appearance of lines, wrinkles, cellulite and body fat
  • Support in toning arms, thighs, chin, breasts, and belly

This method in aesthetics begins working at the cellular level to give you a vibrant, toned, and rejuvenated face and body.  It rejuvenates your natural collagen-producing mechanisms, taking years off your face and skin; they may also stimulate your own natural fat-burning mechanisms, helping your body convert fat into energy.

Newest pain management for Utah County

The latest pain management for Utah County chiropractic patients is here at Dr. Stone’s office.  Pain is a sign that something is wrong within the body.  Instead of simply masking the physical pain, Dr. Stone uses methods to treat pain at the source.  Pain management medicines are very effective because they address all of the body’s systems and all sources of your pain.  By injecting very small amounts of medicine just under the skin, the body’s regulatory systems respond by releasing it’s own anti-inflammatory and pain relieving substances to give you immediate relief.  At the same time, your body’s natural healing processes are stimulated to address the cause of your pain and provide long term relief.

The process by which the medicines are delivered offer immediate relief of acute pain, and the medicine itself treats chronic pain at the source.
